Troubleshooting Password Boss in your browser

Password Boss works in your web browser with a piece of software called a browser button, or a browser extension. The is the piece of software that puts the owls in the fields on website s and fills in the fields for you.

When the browser button is installed you will see an owl icon near the address bar in your browser, similar to this

Make sure the browser button is installed

  1. Open Chrome and click the 3-dots menu  that is located on the right of the address bar.
  2. Navigate to More tools->Extensions.
  3. If you see Password Boss in the list of extensions make sure the "Enabled" check box is checked.

  4. If you enable the extension you should now see the green owl next to the address bar.
  5. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.
  1. Open Firefox and click on the menu icon .
  2. Click Add-ons
  3. If you see Password Boss in the list make sure the button says Disable, which means Password Boss is enabled.

  4. If you enable the extension you should now see the green owl next to the address bar.
  5. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.
  1. Open Opera and click the menu button .
  2. Navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions.
  3. If you see Password Boss in the list make sure the button says Disable, which means Password Boss is enabled.

  4. If you enable the extension you should now see the green owl next to the address bar.
  5. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.
  1. Open Vivaldi and click on the Vivaldi icon  to open the menu.
  2. Navigate to Tools->Extensions.
  3. If you see Password Boss in the list of extensions make sure the "Enabled" check box is checked.

  5. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.
  1. Open Edge and click the 3-dots menu  that is located on the right of the address bar.
  2. Click on Extensions.
  3. If you see Password Boss in the list make sure the label says "On".

  4. If the extension shows off, double-click it to open the settings.
  5. Slide the switch to "On".

  6. To have the owl icon show next to the address bar (recommended) turn this setting "On".

  7. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.
  1. Open Internet Explorer and click the gear icon  that is located to the right of the address bar.
  2. Click Manage add-ons
  3. There should be 2 entries for Password Boss and both should be enabled.

  4. If either entry shows disabled, click the entry to open up the settings. Click the Enable button and click Enable if you see a second prompt.
  5. If you do not see Password Boss listed it you will need to install the extension. See the link below for how to install.

Browser button is installed but no owls in fields on web pages.

The browser buttons communicate with the desktop application. If this communication is interrupted for any reason the browser button may need to be reset.

To reset the browser button close your browser, wait a few seconds, and then reopen your browser.

Reinstall the browser buttons

If you have confirmed that the browser buttons is installed and enabled and it is still not working the next step is to reinstall the browser button.

  1. Open Chrome and click the 3-dots menu  that is located on the right of the address bar.
  2. Navigate to More tools->Extensions.
  3. Click the trash can  next to the Password Boss extension.
  4. Click Remove.
  5. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Chrome button.
  6. On the web page that opens click the "Add to Chrome" button.
  7. Click "Add Extension".
  8. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
  1. Open Firefox and click on the menu icon .
  2. Click Add-ons
  3. Click the Remove button next to the Password Boss extension.
  4. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Firefox button.
  5. On the web page that opens click the "Add to Firefox" button.
  6. Click "Allow".
  7. Click "Add".
  8. Click "OK".
  9. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
  1. Open Opera and click the menu button .
  2. Navigate to Extensions->Manage Extensions.
  3. Click on the X on the Password Boss extension.

  4. Click OK.
  5. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Opera button.
  6. On the web page that opens click the "Add to Chrome" button.
  7. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
  1. Open Vivaldi and click on the Vivaldi icon  to open the menu.
  2. Navigate to Tools->Extensions.
  3. Click the trash can  next to the Password Boss extension.
  4. Click Remove.
  5. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Vivaldi button.
  6. On the web page that opens click the "Add to Vivaldi" button.
  7. Click "Add Extension".
  8. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
  1. Open Edge and click the 3-dots menu  that is located on the right of the address bar.
  2. Click on Extensions.
  3. Click on Password Boss.
  4. Click Uninstall.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Edge button.
  7. On the web page that opens click the "Get" button.
  8. Click "Launch"
  9. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
  1. Open Password Boss and from the Browser Buttons menu choose Uninstall Internet Explorer button.
  2. Click OK.
  3. If prompted again, click OK.
  4. From the Browser Buttons menu choose Install Internet Explorer button.
  5. The extension is now reinstalled and should be working normally.
