Backup your passwords to a file on your computer
The desktop version of Password Boss gives you the ability to make a local backup copy of all of the items saved in your Password Boss account. You can export your data in the following formats:
- Text file
- Password Boss JSON
- Password Boss Encrypted JSON
Exporting to a PDF file
- Open Password Boss and from the File menu choose Export data -> Export to PDF
- Save the .PDF file to your computer. Note the file name and location of the file.
Exporting to a text file
- Open Password Boss and from the File menu choose Export data -> Export to text file
- Save the .RTF file to your computer. Note the file name and location of the file.
Exporting a Password Boss JSON file (unencrypted)
- Open Password Boss and from the File menu choose Export data -> Password Boss JSON - not encrypted.
- Save the .JSON file to your computer. Note the file name and location of the file.
Exporting a Password Boss Encrypted JSON file
Note:
Password protected backups require your email address and Master Password to access the data.
- Open Password Boss and from the File menu choose Export data -> Password Boss secure file.
- Save the .JSON file to your computer. Note the file name and location of the file.
Importing a password protected backup
- Open Password Boss.
- From the File menu choose Import passwords -> From File -> PasswordBoss encrypted export
- Choose the JSON file you created earlier.
- Enter the email address and Master Password for the backup file.
- Select Next.
- Select the items you want to import .
- Select Import .
- All of the imported items will be saved in a new folder named PasswordBoss - <mm/dd/yy -time>.
Importing an unencrypted backup
- Open Password Boss.
- From the File menu choose Import passwords -> From File -> Password Boss JSON - not encrypted.
- Choose the JSON file you created earlier.
- Select Next.
- Select the items you want to import .
- Select Import .
- All of the imported items will be saved in a new folder named PasswordBoss - <mm/dd/yy -time>.
